relation of structure and electrical properties; basic concepts of 
magnetism, conductivity, physics of semiconductors, superconductivity 
and thermoelectricity; fundamentals of polymer chemistry.
Part 2: Interaction of materials with the environment: Introduction: the 
environmental system; electromagnetic and nuclear radiation; thermal 
effects in materials; ageing and degradation; principles of corrosion; 
mechanical effects: static and dynamic; interaction between the various 
Part 3: Descriptive study of principal materials in electrotechnology: 
metallic materials: conductors and resistors; structural materials; organic 
dielectrics: insulating oils, polymers; ceramics and glass; insulating 
gases; magnetic materials.
Part 4: Application in modern equipment: development of the use of 
materials along time with  manufacturing processes; examples: power 
cables, transformers and generators; electronic materials.
